Hi Everyone –<\/p>\n

There\u2019s not a week that goes by that Rich Fairfield, ASI\u2019s senior vice president, the publisher of our magazines and my boss, doesn\u2019t come up with an idea that makes me scowl, roll my eyes and whine, \u201cWhere\u2019d you come up with that cockamamie plan?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

He had a doozie recently, in which he proposed that the five senior editors \u2013 myself, Editor-in-Chief Melinda Ligos, Counselor<\/em> Editor Andy Cohen, Advantages<\/em> Editor Kathy Huston and Managing Editor Joe Haley \u2013 would host a weekly call-in radio talk show. I\u2019ll spare you my initial reaction, but \u201ccockamamie\u201d would have been kind. However, as a large percentage of his ideas are ultimate successes, we\u2019re proceeding with ASI Radio, premiering next Tuesday, July 15 at 10:30 a.m. EDT via streaming Internet feed (www.asicentral.com\/radio<\/a>). The 10:30 a.m. start, incidentally was Rich\u2019s concession to me, who routinely strolls in at about that time to start the work day.<\/p>\n

In this radio show, the five of us will be discussing industry hot topics such as price increases and product safety, in addition to other profoundly important issues of the day, like who’s the yummiest hottie (as well as the biggest pain in my ass) in the industry. Now, people in the industry I\u2019ve shared this premise with \u2013 my Michaels, Polyconcept North America\u2019s CEO Michael Bernstein and Express Pens\u2019 owner Michael Linderman \u2013 both had the same concern: \u201cHow the hell are the other three people supposed to talk with you and Joe Haley sucking all the oxygen out of the room?\u201d They are not wrong. Of the five of us, Joe and I \u2013 hand\u2019s down \u2013 are the loudest, most reactionary and opinionated. Maybe because we\u2019re both short in stature, we wield our big mouths to overcompensate for our little size.<\/p>\n

Below, in this PR shot taken for the radio show, Andy, Melinda and Kathy look pretty much as they do every day. Joe and I, however, were asked by Rich to dress in a way that exemplified our “personalities” \u2013 Joe in an old-fashioned bowtie signifying his curmudgeonly nature and me in an excessive fur coat and blood-red stilettos. There\u2019s just one thing: In the 11 years we\u2019ve worked together, Joe has never worn a bowtie and though I do wear fur coats, not usually in June, when this photo was taken. Consequently, Joe looks like a Tool and I, a surly tranny.<\/p>\n

All that said, Rich\u2019s idea will probably be another good one and we\u2019re all looking forward to the radio show very much. If, for no other reason, than to weigh in on such crucial industry issues as price increases –\u00a0 as I type this, the Chinese government announced it raised prices on fuel, which will mean still higher prices on their exports.<\/p>\n
