{"id":22,"date":"2008-01-29T16:02:59","date_gmt":"2008-01-29T16:02:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bellwether-asicentral.com\/bellblog\/2008\/01\/29\/northern-exposure\/"},"modified":"2008-01-29T20:36:55","modified_gmt":"2008-01-29T20:36:55","slug":"northern-exposure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bellwether-asicentral.com\/bellblog\/2008\/01\/29\/northern-exposure\/","title":{"rendered":"Northern Exposure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi again from the PPACanada Show in Toronto!<\/p>\n<p>The second day of\u00a0Canada&#8217;s largest trade show\u00a0kept its steady pace, much to the delight of exhibitors, all of whom had just one complaint &#8212; they didn&#8217;t bring enough catalogs.\u00a0 (Listen to my pod cast with Leslie Oesen, vice president of ASI Canada and expert on the Canadian ad specialties industry, who sat down with me yesterday to discuss trends and changes in the marketplace.)<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>After spending time hanging out with many industry professionals on the show floor and in the Hilton&#8217;s\u00a0aptly-named &#8220;Tundra&#8221; bar at the end of each show day, the consensus is that the show is a great one, as\u00a0the shows held so far\u00a0this year have been. Industry veteran (and one of my favorite characters) Jay Donlin, here with his company Visions\/Awardcraft, told me that his experience\u00a0so far with the Canadian market has exceeded his expectations. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/22480055@N04\/2228366439\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" src=\"http:\/\/bellwether-asicentral.com\/bellblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/001.jpg\" height=\"225\" class=\"stack\" \/><\/a><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/22480055@N04\/2228366503\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" src=\"http:\/\/bellwether-asicentral.com\/bellblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/002.jpg\" height=\"225\" class=\"stack\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last night, PPACanada lauded one of its most visible and passionate champions, Kurt Reckzeigel, last night at a tribute dinner in his honor. More than 200 guests attended, including both Jo-an Lantz, executive vice president of Geiger and David Woods, CEO of AIA, who are both past PPAI Chairpersons of the Board, who flew to Toronto especially for the occasion.\u00a0There were\u00a0slide-show\u00a0presentations, lots of testimonials\u00a0from people with moving, funny and sentimental\u00a0stories about\u00a0Kurt, who was clearly moved by the event and turnout.<\/p>\n<p>The show ends today, so I&#8217;m heading\u00a0home to Philly until next week when I go to Dallas for the ASI Dallas Show, a show I look forward to each year because I always manage to find some cool new items there. Equally as important, Dan Townes &#8212;\u00a0one of my favorite partners in crime &#8212; will be back on the show tour in rare form, after having to miss the PPAI Vegas Show. Dan, you pick\u00a0the bar and I&#8217;ll be there with bells on.
