OMG!!! "My Sharona" definitely takes me back -- I love it! In fact, I call my pal Sharon Biernat (formerly with OnTime Promotions in Chicago, now with Creative Promotional Products) "Sharona" for just that reason. ; ) Great suggestion, Kim, and thanks for posting! -- M

What about "My Sharona" by The Knack? In the summer 1979, it was THE song and always brings me back to having ice cream with my friends at the Dairy Queen in Summit, NJ.

Hey Michelle,
in regards to Craigs dilemma, another variation is that the Troubadours might refer to the Beatles who becoming more mystical in their song writing after coming to India, and losing touch with reality and the common man. It is said they used a lot of LSD at Mahesh Yogi's abode in India, So could it mean that the India trips did the Beatles in? Or did Mick mean the beatles popularity was killed off because of the growing popularity of the Rolling Stones?
Thanks
Al

FABULOUS choice, Alex! That's one of my favorites, too! It actually almost made the blog, but at one point I had 30 songs and some had to go. Hence, no Bob Marley and no "Summer Wind" by Sinatra, which is what the Princeton Bar & Grill in Avalon ("The P," to all of you who know it and have disgraced yourselves there!) used to play at 2:00 a.m. every Friday & Saturday night in the summer to close the bar. Shortly thereafter, the "walks of shame" would begin... ; )

Great blog, Michele! Aside from Springsteen, which always reminds me of summer, there's "Dancing in the Moonlight" by King Harvest. My friends and I spent a summer in Cali and, with lots of beer and party favors, spent many a summer night dancing on the beach to this song and howling at the moon.

I'm surprised you don't have anything by John Cougar Mellencamp. I figured it would be a staple for the Avalon bar scene.

"well I'm-a standin' on a corner in Winslow, AZ, such a fine sight to see, it's a girl, my lord, in a flat-bed Ford, slowin' down to take a look at me...." The Eagles

If I ever get a chance to ask Mick Jagger a question, this will be it... But the first post from "The Wookie" -- the one about the hippies -- makes sense and I've never heard it. I always thought that line was about a troop of Shakespearean actors who were killed when insurgents had one of their rebellions against the Queen, but could never find any info to support that. Has anyone heard that theory?

Hi Annie! Thanks so much for alerting me to songfacts.com -- it's an awesome site! I'm going to let Craig Nadel pick the person who has the best historical reference for the line that's been torturing him in "Sympathy," but I'm sending you a gift card, too, for directing me to songfacts. E-mail your address to me at mbell@asicentral.com. Thanks so much! -- M
